Trust
Trust in the Universe. Trust in Nature. Look around and everything that is available to the birds, the squirrels, the ducks, the ants, the earthworms. Everything that is available to them is available to us all. They don’t worry about what is to come, they know that it already is, they trust in the nature of Nature.
We can too. We are also part of Nature.
Ah, it doesn’t feel like it because we have become disconnected. Because we spend our time chasing, needing, wanting and wasting we have become disconnected from our own Nature. When we throw litter on the ground, or steal a little here, or lie a little there or we are a little bit cruel or miserly we unwittingly reduce our own capacity to trust in Nature because we feel untrustworthy ourselves. Everything we experience externally is a direct reflection of what we feel ourselves to be internally. So if we feel trustworthy, kind, fair, generous and open-hearted we encounter a world that is exactly the same.
So when you are able to see yourself like a bee collecting pollen from a flower and then a goat happens to munch that flower right out of your reality you have no qualm or consternation. You just fly to the next flower, maybe of a different species, wow this pollen tastes different and so good. I would have loaded up on that other one and gone back to the hive none the wiser if it hadn’t been for that lucky goat. If I had been in another mindset I would have cursed it to goat-hell but I know an opportunity when I see one. I love my job of being in the cycle of life and pollenating all these plants while I get to fly around in the sunshine and the rain. I love participating in this cycle in which I am necessary and significant and in which I can always trust that everything is conspiring for my highest good, like that lucky goat.
Our grasping minds like to settle into a pattern and pad ourselves in false comfort, like a duvet which makes us feel warm and cosy and safe but invariably keeps us in bed our whole lives. When we allow the all-loving universe that is us ourselves loving ourselves to push us gently (or not so gently) in the direction of growth or positive change we become alive to the abundance of possibility and opportunity that is flowing into our realm of being at every single moment. For us bees there are flowers everywhere if we trust that they are there. For us bees that can remember that we too are the flowers providing abundance and opportunity to other bees then we realise that we are in a never-ending natural cycle of trust, love and abundance.
One of the best ways to trust the Universe is to be trustworthy yourself - then you will know you deserve all the gifts that fall right in your lap. One of the best ways to understand the nature of abundance and generosity is to be the very embodiment of the same.
We are the Universe and so what we believe we are… is. How we interact with the world is how the world interacts with us. We would not leave anyone else adrift to suffer or without a kind nudge in the right direction and we can expect the very same ourselves.
Another beautiful way of looking at this wise, loving, generous, kind, bountiful, colourful, playful, creative, surprising Universe is through the archetype of the Kind Mother.
Our Kind Mother, the Universe, the Earth, loves and provides for us, her children, in ways that she in her infinite wisdom knows are for our highest good. She will never scrimp or hold back on us but she will also not give us that which we think we want but is not in our highest good. For example, we may want a bag of e-numbered, sugar-buzzing jelly sweets and she will instead give us a ripe, luscious, juicy mango. Either way, we will not go hungry and in fact be healthier and more abundant when receiving the version of what we wanted that is in our highest good. A mango, what a treat!
Not only is she generous and giving in this way. She is kind, gentle and forgiving in ways that we may not have experienced even with our own human-mothers, if we had one. There are many versions of the human-mother from the one who abandoned you after birth to the one who pushed you to do well and be ‘successful’ in this conditioned world to the one who did her best to help you flourish into the fullness of yourself but still left some to be desired.
All of these she is not. She is the kind mother. Ask the bees. Be the bees and learn what it is to be held, cared for, safe, accepted, guided gently, nurtured and delighted by the Kind Mother. Be the bees and learn what patience, kindness, gentleness, warmth, generosity and loyalty feel like. And when you have learnt what the Kind Mother is you too can become Her.
Enter into the cycle of trust and trustworthiness. Lie back on the flowing river of Consciousness and allow yourself to be carried downstream without care or fear and only the delight of the clouds above passing through your mind also the flowing river.
Trust. Trust and fly.
Be the bees.
